Overview
Udo Island (우도) sits 3½ km off Seongsan-ri on Jeju Island and is South Korea's second-largest satellite island, though only 370 people call it home. The name means "Cow Island" in Chinese, and from certain angles the lava plateau does look like a cow lying down.

Before you go
Accommodation
Udo has minimal places to stay; most visitors return to Jeju Island the same day. Book Jeju accommodation for overnight trips.
Food
Try local peanuts (roasted, in rice wine, or peanut ice cream), conch, and fresh seafood including scallops, sea cucumbers, and abalone.
Money
South Korean Won (KRW) is the local currency. Credit cards are accepted at most establishments on Jeju; cash may be preferred at smaller Udo vendors.
Safety
Watch for horse droppings on paths near the horseback riding course. Coastal hiking paths are generally safe but uneven.
Transport
Udo is reached by ferry from Seongsan-ri on Jeju Island, about a 1-hour crossing. The island is small enough to explore by bicycle in 2-3 hours.
