Guides and photographs stored on the device.

The app will include destination guides, pixel plates, practical notes and connections between places. You’ll be able to read them without a connection. Apple’s map tiles need a connection when they aren’t already cached.

Plan stops, routes and costs.

The trip planner will keep your chosen destinations and routes on the device. It will use the atlas’s daily budgets to estimate trip costs. These prices are historical; check current fares and rates before you travel.

Journal entries, photos and visited places.

The journal will keep a page for each day, your photos and a passport stamp for each place you mark as visited. Entries stay on your device. Optional iCloud sync needs a connection and uses your own Apple account.

No account required.

You won’t need a Backpacker Index account. Trips, journal entries and photos won’t pass through our servers.
