USD is used in Ecuador. Be wary of taxi drivers offering currency exchange at rip-off rates. Peruvian taxis on the other side accept soles. Fixed taxi rates to Peruvian destinations are posted at the border.
Safety
Known for muggings and robberies. Keep valuables secure, avoid dark streets, stay alert. Only cross on foot via the international bridge to reach either immigration office.

Yellow taxis to immigration office cost $5. Tri-moto cabs for short trips within town. International buses from Guayaquil to Tumbes wait at immigration office.
