Why go?
Los Organos is a small fishing village turned beach town on Peru's northern Pacific coast, 15 minutes from Mancora. Unlike its more popular neighbor, it sees few travelers, making it exceptionally quiet and tranquil. The main appeal is peaceful beach time, fresh seafood, and a low-key atmosphere where you can hear the waves without the crowds. It's particularly suited for budget travelers seeking a slow pace, surfing at Punta Veleros, or a peaceful base for exploring the northern coast.

Getting in
The most common approach is by bus from Lima—a 20-hour ride on companies like Cruz del Sur or Palominos. Alternatively, fly into Lima's airport and connect to Piura, then take a 2.5-hour bus south to Los Organos. There are no direct international flights; all visitors arrive via Lima or regional hubs. Bus prices vary by class and operator, with Cruz del Sur being a premium option and Palominos offering budget-friendly seats.

Getting around
Mototaxis—motorcycles adapted to carry 1-3 passengers in back—are the only public transport in Los Organos. A ride from town center to the beach costs 1 sol. You can also rent a car, bicycle, or motorcycle for more independence. Walking is feasible within the compact town center, which revolves around the main square.

Where to stay
Accommodations cluster along the beach and in town, ranging from simple single houses to bungalows with amenities like internet, pool, bar, and hot water. Standard nightly rates run US$20–80, with budget options starting around US$10 through local contacts. Soleil Bungalows offers matrimonial and family bungalows from US$90–170 per night. Cerro Mar (house for up to 10 people) charges US$1000–1500 per week depending on season. For cheaper unpublished options, ask locally—some travelers report rooms from US$10 by inquiring with Idyllic Peru.

Food and drink
Restaurants serve traditional Peruvian food, with most dishes featuring fresh fish or seafood. Cevicherías are prominent, serving ceviche (raw fish or seafood 'cooked' in lemon juice). A full menu typically costs 15 soles. International options are available but limited. For drinks, pisco is the base for cocktails like pisco sour (with lemon juice and sugar), chilcano de pisco (with ginger ale), or Perú Libre (with Coca-Cola). Beer, rum, whisky, and vodka are also available.

Things to do
The beach is the main draw—quiet and mostly empty, with a main dock where fishermen haul in fish like Mero and Congrio. Pelicans and crabs are common sights. Water sports are a highlight: waves at Punta Veleros are excellent for surfing and kitesurfing, and you can also go fishing or scuba diving. The town center around the main square offers local hangout culture during day and into early night.

Day trips

Cabo Blanco is a historic Hemingway haunt, accessible by local bus. Both are on the Pan-American Highway ( kilometer 1165) heading south.
