Overview
Tamano is a small port city in Okayama Prefecture primarily used as a departure point for ferries to islands in the Seto Inland Sea, especially Naoshima. The city itself offers quiet streets, local seafood specialty ontama meshi, natural hot springs with sea views, and several art installations from the Setouchi Triennale.

Activities
Miyama Park has cherry blossom and autumn foliage. Ojigatake Hill offers hiking with Great Seto Bridge views. Setouchi Onsen Tamanoyu (¥1,600-1,900) has sea-view hot springs.
Food
Ontama meshi (conger eel with fried rice, kabayaki sauce, soft-boiled egg) is the local specialty, available at Cafe Restaurant Sonaru and Jidaiya.
Transport
JR Uno Station connects to Okayama. Uno Port ferry terminal is a 5-minute walk from the station. Ferries to Naoshima take approximately 20 minutes.
Water
Shibukawa Beach is open late June through late August. Shibukawa Marine Aquarium (¥500 adults, ¥250 children) showcases 180 species from the Seto Inland Sea.
