Overview
Maihar is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage town in Madhya Pradesh's Eastern region, famous for the Sharada Temple perched atop a mountain dedicated to Goddess Sharda, the deity of learning. The town was once the capital of the princely state of Maihar before India's independence in 1948, and holds cultural significance as the home of sarod maestro Baba Allauddin Khan, teacher to Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar.
