Why go?
Kanpur is Uttar Pradesh's largest city and a major industrial hub for chemicals, textiles, and especially leather goods. The city (formerly Cawnpore) holds significant colonial history from the 1857 Rebellion, with Massacre Ghat and Nana Rao Park marking the tragic events. For travelers, Kanpur offers a gritty, authentic North Indian experience far from tourist crowds, excellent leather shopping, and chaat street food that rivals Lucknow. It serves as a practical transit hub between Delhi and Varanasi, with good train connections and an airport with daily flights.
