Before you go
Accommodation
Upscale resorts dominate; budget options are scarce after COVID closures. Rooms at Melia Koh Samui start from 4,000 baht.
Activities
Water sports are the main draw: kayaking to offshore islets, snorkeling, and scuba tours to Ko Phangan and Ko Tao.
Money
Thai Baht (THB) is the local currency. Budget meals start at 20 baht for grilled chicken; restaurant mains average 100 baht. Beach massage is 300 baht/hour.
Safety
Family-friendly area with clean waters. Eastern winds can make snorkeling conditions poor. Mosquitoes can be a nuisance after rain.
Transport
Grab is more affordable than taxis. Songthaews are rare since Choeng Mon is not on the main loop road. Car or motorbike rental recommended for independence.
