Overview
Yaotsu is a quiet rural town in Gifu Prefecture that draws visitors primarily for its connection to Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese diplomat who issued transit visas to thousands of Jews fleeing the Holocaust in 1940. The Chiune Sugihara Memorial Hall, opened in 2000, is the main attraction, with many visitors arriving from Israel.
