Overview
Valledupar is the birthplace of Vallenato music, a UNESCO-recognized genre that defines Colombian culture. The city is known as the 'forest city' and claims to be the greenest in Colombia, offering colonial architecture around Plaza Alfonso López, river swimming in the Guatapurí and Badillo rivers, and access to indigenous Arhuaco communities.

Taxis, buses, and mototaxis (informal autos) provide urban transport. Walking is viable in the compact downtown colonial area.
Weather
Average temperature is 30°C year-round with sunshine. Dry season from December to February is most comfortable. Rivers get very crowded on weekends and holidays.
