Overview
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of Europe's most stunning natural attractions, featuring 16 terraced lakes connected by spectacular waterfalls formed over thousands of years. The park was established in 1949 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, making it Croatia's oldest and most visited national park.

Money
The park uses euros (€). Credit cards may not be accepted at all vendors—carry some cash for small purchases at souvenir stalls and village shops.
Packing
Bring 2+ liters of water per person on summer visits, plus snacks and lunch. Good walking shoes are essential—many stairs and moist paths throughout.
Planning
Buy tickets online 2+ days in advance in summer, especially weekends. Arrive early if buying at the gate. Two-day tickets offer substantial savings.
Safety
Land mines exist in forests outside park boundaries—stay on marked trails. Bears are present; make noise if you encounter one, never run.
Transport
Entrances 1 and 2 are 3km apart on Highway D1. Shuttle bus connects them; park tickets include internal transport. Long-distance buses serve both entrances.
Weather
Mountain climate with hot summers (up to 35°C) and cold winters with heavy snowfall. Bring water in summer and check forecasts for afternoon thunderstorms.
