Overview
Ōmihachiman is a preserved historic merchant city on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa, designated as a national preservation district and important cultural landscape. The old town showcases intact Edo-period merchant houses and unusual Western-style buildings from the early 20th century, many designed by American architect William Merrell Vories.
