Why go?

Muang Khua is a small riverside town in Phongsali Province serving as a key transit point along the Nam Ou river. Most travelers pass through as a halfway stop between Muang Ngoi Neua, Muang Xay, and the Vietnam border crossing at Dien Bien Phu. Despite its small size, the town has its own charm with an old suspension bridge, local markets, and a relaxed atmosphere where you can watch fishermen on the river.

Get in

Muang Khua can be reached from four directions: the Nam Ou river crosses through the town from north to south, while roads head east and west. The river boat from Muang Ngoi Neua takes about 5 hours at a cost of 100,000 kip. Local buses connect to Muang Xay and Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam, with buses leaving around 7am.
