Monte Albán is one of Mexico's most important archaeological sites, serving as the socio-political and economic center of the Zapotec civilization for nearly 1,000 years. Its dramatic hilltop location offers sweeping views over Oaxaca city, and the site's central plaza showcases grand temple platforms, intricate carvings, and sunken tombs.

Open daily 08:00-17:00. Museum may be closed on Sundays.

Site entry costs M$210 for foreigners (M$105 residents); video/tripod fee is M$63. Shuttle transport from Oaxaca runs M$120-130 round trip.
Safety
Bring sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) and water. Shade is limited; the sun can be relentless at this altitude.
Transport
Tourist shuttles depart hourly from Oaxaca's zócalo area from 08:00-15:30. The drive takes 25-35 minutes along Carretera a Monte Albán.
Weather
Best visited November-April (dry season). March-May are hottest with highs over 30°C. Site is breezier than Oaxaca city below.
