Overview
Miura sits at the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, best known for its tuna fishery at Misaki port where several sushi chains have adopted the placename. The area combines rural vegetable farms with Pacific coastline beaches, making it a slower alternative to nearby Kamakura while remaining accessible as a day trip from Tokyo.

Before you go
Food
Tuna is the star at Misaki fishery port restaurants. Daikon (radish) and watermelon are local agricultural products. No bars exist in the city; rely on vending machines for cold drinks.
Season
Summer draws beach crowds to Miura Beach with huts and fireworks in late August. Swimming season is summer; fishing is year-round. Consider shoulder seasons for fewer tourists.
Transport
Keikyu Line runs from Shinagawa (Tokyo) to Misakiguchi terminus in about 62 minutes. Buses connect the train station to Misaki port and Jogashima. Jogashima Ferry costs ¥500 adults, ¥300 children, day pass ¥1000.
