Overview
Lake Manyara packs remarkable biodiversity into a relatively small park along Tanzania's Great Rift Valley. The star attraction is the rare phenomenon of tree-climbing lions, spotted resting in acacia branches—unusual behavior that draws wildlife photographers from around the world.

Connectivity
Limited or no cellular reception inside the park. Purchase SIM cards in Arusha or Karatu for the best chance of coverage.
Fees
Park fees are approximately US$50–60 per day for non-resident adults (March 2026). Credit and debit cards are accepted at gates; cash often not accepted.
Food
No restaurants inside the park; bring a picnic lunch or eat at your lodge. Mto wa Mbu village nearby has simple local eateries.
Safety
Stay in your vehicle except at designated areas. Keep safe distance from elephants, buffalo, and baboons. Use insect repellent for mosquitoes.
Transport
Most visitors arrive via organized safari from Arusha or Karatu. Self-drive requires a 4x4 vehicle. The park is 1.5 hours southwest of Arusha.
Weather
June–October is peak season with excellent wildlife viewing. Daytime temps range 24–30°C, nights cool to 14–18°C. Long rains fall March–May.
