Overview
Kure is a port city in Hiroshima prefecture that served as a major base for the Imperial Japanese Navy and now hosts the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF). The city offers two excellent maritime museums across the road from one another—a five-minute walk from JR Kure Station—making it a compelling day trip for history enthusiasts.

Museums
Both maritime museums are free to visit the outdoor exhibits. The Yamato Museum charges ¥500 for adults, ¥300 for high school students, and ¥200 for elementary and junior students.
