Dong Ha is the closest major city to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), the former border between North and South Vietnam. The city serves primarily as a base for DMZ tours and offers budget accommodation at significantly lower prices than Hue.

Minibuses to Hue (50,000 dong) and Da Nang (100,000 dong) run daily. Only local trains stop at Dong Ha station.

Hot, dusty conditions from May-August. Best visiting season is February to September.
