Overview
Camalú is a quiet beach town of 8,600 people (2010) nestled between Colonet and El Rosario, about 2 hours south of Ensenada along Highway 1. It offers a low-key alternative to busier Pacific coast destinations with surfing, fishing, clamming, crabbing, and off-road adventures.

Food
Fresh seafood is the specialty. Fish tacos at Pirate's Cove run about US$7.95. Las Brisas offers excellent local food at very reasonable prices.
Money
Prices quoted in US dollars for some establishments. Mexican pesos are accepted everywhere. ATMs may be limited in this small town; withdraw cash in Ensenada before heading south.
Transport
Highway 1 is the main access route; having a car is helpful for reaching beaches and nearby attractions. Local taxis or ride shares may be limited.
Weather
Water temperatures range 10-21°C (50-70°F). Wear a 3mm/2mm wetsuit for surfing except on the warmest days. Summers are warmest but also most crowded with Mexican tourists.
