Before you go
Food
Basic cafes serve tagine. Shops sell bread, eggs, vegetables, and tinned foods. No cheese except Laughing Cow; milk is often curdled. Alcohol unavailable.
Money
Moroccan dirham (MAD) is the local currency. Basic items like bread, eggs, and cigarettes cost 1 dirham each. Water and soft drinks are 7 dirham per litre. ATMs are unlikely in this small town—bring sufficient cash from Marrakech.
Safety
Persistent hustlers operate near the main cafe and petrol station. Avoid eye contact and be firm if declining offers. The village is otherwise safe for short stays.
Transport
Grand taxis and minibuses connect Asni to Marrakech (1 hour). Taxis returning to Marrakech cost more due to lower demand. The road continues to Imlil for deeper mountain exploration.
Weather
Summer temperatures reach 45°C in the afternoon. Carry 3+ litres of water daily. Brief afternoon thunderstorms are possible. Shade is scarce—plan accordingly.
