Understand

Verőce was first mentioned in a diploma between 1444 and 1460 as part of the ancient estates of the bishopric of Vác. After the Turkish occupation, the village was rebuilt by Hungarians, Slavs, and Germans who returned from Upper Hungary. The village was previously called Nógrádverőce, with German name Werowitz and Slovak name Verovce.

Verőce is accessible by train on the Budapest–Vác–Szob line, with the station at Marus út 1 open 06:00–17:25. The MAHART PassNave ferry port provides Danube river access. Regional buses operated by Volánbusz connect Verőce to surrounding villages.

When to go

The Beat Festival takes place in Verőce in July. Summer months (June–August) feature the free beach open access on the Danube. Many outdoor activities like the Királyrét Draisine Loop and fishing lakes operate April–October. The Kismaros Swabian Museum opens March 15–November 15.
