South Korean Won (KRW) is the local currency. Cards accepted at some hotels and restaurants in Dodong, but cash is essential for local buses, smaller establishments, and camping sites.
Transport
Ferries to Ulleungdo depart from Donghae (Mukho harbor), Gangneung, and Pohang. Book in advance as only 1-2 boats run daily. The last bus departs before 20:00.
Weather
Maritime climate with foggy, cloudy conditions 85% of the year. Cool summers (max 24°C) but snowy winters. Spring and early autumn are best for outdoor activities.
