Overview
Tranquebar (Tharangambadi) is a sleepy coastal town 120 km south of Pondicherry that served as a Danish trading post from 1620 to 1845. The fortified town still retains its colonial European character with Danish-styled mansions, churches, and Fort Dansborg dominating the skyline.

Food
The Bungalow on the Beach is the only restaurant in town. Continental meals around ₹200. Beer available at ₹150 but coded as 'fruit juice' on bills.

Cash is essential as cards are not accepted at most establishments. The Bungalow on the Beach is the only option for dining and accepts cash. ATM availability in Tranquebar is limited; withdraw in Pondicherry before visiting.
Transport
Tranquebar is accessible by bus or taxi from Pondicherry (120 km). Ask for Tharangambadi (local name) rather than Tranquebar. No direct train service. The town is walkable in 3-4 hours.
Water
The beach has rocky outcrops and is unsuitable for swimming. Stick to wading only if at all.
