Overview
Tongchuan sits at the junction of the Guanzhong Plain and Northern Shaanxi Plateau, 68 km north of Xi'an, making it an essential stop on the route to the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor and revolutionary Yan'an. The city flourished during the Tang Dynasty as a cultural hub where multiple cultures converged, and today it preserves that legacy through Yaowang Mountain—one of China's key Taoist cultural origins—and the Yaozhou kiln, famous for ceramics since the Tang.
