Overview
Tewantin was the original settlement in the Noosa region and remains one of its three major centers today, offering a quieter, more authentic base than tourist-heavy Noosa Heads while providing easy access to everything the region offers. With a population of over 11,000 and a location on the Noosa River, the town provides backpackers with affordable accommodation options, local markets, and a launching point for national park walks, fishing charters, and water sports.

Accommodation
Budget accommodation is concentrated in Noosa Heads, with dorm beds from $26 at hostels; self-catering apartments in Noosaville offer better value for longer stays from $65 per night.
Safety
Only swim at patrolled beaches between the flags; Alexandra Bay in the national park has dangerous rips and is for experienced swimmers only.

Weather
Spring (Sep-Nov) and autumn (Mar-May) offer ideal weather for combining beach time with national park walks; summer brings heat and storms but is peak season for water sports.
