Szeged's tram/trolleybus network covers the city and Újszeged. The main railway station (Nagyállomás) is centrally located. M5 motorway connects to Budapest (171 km). International bus and train connections to Serbia and Romania.

Szeged claims the most sunny days in Hungary. Summers are warm (25-30°C) with festival activity; winters are cold. The Open Air Theatre Festival runs summer; Halászlé Festival occurs in September.
