Why go?
Szolnok sits at the confluence of the Tisza and Zagyva rivers, 100 km east-southeast of Budapest on the Great Hungarian Plain. The city, with 71,000 residents, has rebuilt itself from wartime destruction and socialist architecture into a more pleasant destination with reconstructed public squares. It serves as the county seat and cultural center for the region, making it a practical stop between the capital and eastern Hungary.
