Overview
Serres is a regional capital in Central Macedonia, Greece, situated in a fertile plain at 70m elevation with the Rhodope Mountains rising to the north and east. The city was almost entirely rebuilt after Bulgarian forces burned it during the Second Balkan War (1913), resulting in wide streets, modern parks, and squares unusual for a city its size.
