Overview
Sárospatak (often called simply Patak) is a small historic town in the Bodrog river valley, 70 km northeast of Miskolc. It gained town status in 1201 and was an important stop on the medieval trade route to Poland.

Hungarian Forint (HUF) is the local currency. ATMs available in town; larger hotels and restaurants may accept cards but carry cash for smaller establishments and markets.

Walking shoes essential for exploring cobblestone streets and nature trails. Layers recommended for variable spring/autumn weather. Swimwear useful for thermal baths at Végardó Bath.
Transport
No local taxi service; regional Volánbusz connects Sárospatak to surrounding villages. Train station with wide ticket office hours (03:20–22:20). Main Road 37 is the primary east-west route.
Weather
Continental climate with cold winters (dec–feb) and warm summers (jun–aug). Summer festivals run June–August. Winter visits possible but many attractions have shorter hours.
