Overview
Sangkhla Buri is an idyllic, off-the-beaten-path town in northwest Kanchanaburi Province where Thailand meets Myanmar. The main attraction is Saphan Mon, the longest wooden bridge in Thailand, leading to the Mon village of Wangka founded in 1949 by refugee monks.

Culture
Mon culture predominates on the village side of the bridge. Luang Phor Uttama's temple (Wat Wang Wiwekaram) remains highly revered.
Etiquette
Alcohol prohibited in public in Wangka (Mon village). Show respect at temples; remove shoes. Mon villagers may speak Mon, not Thai.
Money
Thai baht (THB) throughout. Cash preferred in town; ATMs available but limited near border. Supermarket beer from 42 baht.
Transport
Direct buses from Bangkok Mo Chit (7-8 hrs) or Kanchanaburi (3-5 hrs). Minibus is fastest at 3 hours for 146 baht. Last bus to Bangkok at 13:30.
Water
Tap water may be from the reservoir—drink bottled water. Swimming in the reservoir is common.
