Before you go
Connectivity
Mobile coverage is available from Mexican carriers. WiFi is common at hotels and some restaurants on the malecon.
Money
U.S. dollars are widely accepted throughout San Felipe. Mexican pesos are also accepted. Credit cards work at some hotels and restaurants but cash is king for markets and street vendors.
Safety
San Felipe is generally safe for tourists. Exercise caution with the powerful tidal bore—never park vehicles on the beach without monitoring the tide schedule.
Transport
No local bus system exists. The malecon is walkable, but you'll need a car to reach beach campgrounds north of town. Driving on the beach is possible but risky—even 4WD vehicles get stuck in soft sand.
Weather
San Felipe has a desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. Spring brings pleasant temperatures and the annual Blues Festival in April.
