Overview
Queen Elizabeth National Park offers the most accessible safari experience in Uganda, situated between Lake Edward and Lake George with over 774 square miles of diverse terrain. The park is renowned for having the world's largest concentration of hippos in the Kasinga Channel, plus elephants, tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, and the endemic Ugandan Kob featured on the national coat of arms.

Before you go
Health
Malaria prophylaxis recommended as the park is in a malaria-endemic zone. Tsetse flies present near crater lakes—wear long sleeves and use insect repellent. Limited medical facilities within the park.
Money
Ugandan Shilling (USh) is the local currency. Carry sufficient cash for park fees, transport, and accommodations as ATMs are limited near the park. Some lodges accept USD.
Safety
Security incidents have occurred; check travel advisories. An armed guard is mandatory for all game drives. Avoid isolated areas after dark and travel with licensed guides.
Transport
Buses from Kampala to Kasese pass through the park (USh 15,000). Disembark at Katunguru Gate and negotiate taxi to Mweya (approx USh 30,000). Flights available from Entebbe and other national parks to Mweya or Kasese airstrips.
Weather
Dry seasons (Dec-Feb, Jun-Aug) offer best wildlife viewing. Wet seasons bring green scenery but muddy roads. Temperatures are generally warm year-round.
