Overview
Puerto Nuevo is a small coastal city in Baja California celebrated as the Lobster Capital of Baja. The town has roughly 35 lobster restaurants, all specializing in large pan-fried crustaceans served in the traditional Puerto Nuevo style—accompanied by refried beans and flour tortillas, often paired with wine from the nearby Valle de Guadalupe region.

Connectivity
Mexican cellular providers (Telcel, AT&T Mexico, Movistar) all have coverage. SIM cards are readily available at tiendas and gas stations. WiFi is common in restaurants and hotels.
Food
Budget US$10-35 per person for a lobster meal; a full dinner with drinks and appetizers runs US$25-60 per person. Lunch is cheaper than dinner. BYOB policies vary by restaurant—confirm before ordering.
Language
Spanish is the primary language. Restaurant staff in the tourist zone often speak basic English, especially at larger establishments like Villa Ortegas.
Money
US dollars are widely accepted in tourist restaurants, but you will receive better value paying in Mexican pesos. ATMs are available in town; use those attached to banks for security.
Transport
The toll road (Cuota) from Tijuana costs approximately US$5-7 in total tolls and takes 45 minutes. A free parallel road adds 15 minutes but avoids tolls. Parking is typically free at restaurants but can be scarce during peak meal times.
Weather
Summers are warm (24°C average) with plenty of sun. Winters are mild (18°C) but evenings can be cool. Santa Ana winds in autumn create dry, warm conditions and high fire risk.
