Overview
Puerto Esperanza is a small seaside town in Pinar del Rio Province offering an authentically relaxed Cuban fishing village experience with very few foreign tourists. Located just north of Viñales, it provides a quieter alternative to more touristed areas while still offering warm Caribbean Sea swimming, local tobacco culture, and genuine interactions with Cuban families.

Only casas particulares (private homestays) are available—no hotels. Book through local connections or ask at the main square.
Food
Casa particulars serve fresh fish, seafood, and lobster. Look for the popular wooden-oven pizza near the seaside cafeteria—often sold out by 2 pm.
Money
No ATM in Puerto Esperanza. Bring sufficient cash from Viñales or Pinar del Rio where ATMs are available.
Transport
Take a 'machina' before midday from Pinar del Rio or Viñales (1-2 CUC, 20-40 min). Within town, most places are walkable or reachable by bici-taxi.
