Overview
Port El Kantaoui is an upscale resort suburb built in 1979, centered around a marina with yacht pier, fountain square, shops, and restaurants. It is the most expensive neighborhood of Sousse and offers a more contained, tourist-oriented experience compared to the medina chaos of central Sousse.

Before you go
Accommodation
Almost all accommodation is upscale—5-star hotels comparable to European 3/4-star quality. Budget travelers should look in Sousse proper instead.
Food
Restaurant menus are similar across establishments—fish-heavy with 15-20 DT average meals. Traditional Tunisian cuisine is limited; Restaurant Familial is the only dedicated option.
Money
Tunisian Dinar (DT) is the local currency. Credit cards accepted at hotels and larger restaurants. Supermarkets near the port Gate sell bottled water cheaply (0.300-0.600 DT/1.5L).
Transport
Purple tuk-tuks connect Sousse and Kantaoui for 2-2.5 DT per person. Taxis from Sousse should be negotiated to 5-6 DT. The tourist train is 2.5 DT per person.
Water
Water in Port El Kantaoui, Sousse, and Hammam-Sousse is safer to drink than most of Tunisia due to better treatment, but high nitrates and chlorine mean bottled water is still advisable. Bottled water is cheap and widely available.
