Overview
Piha is a small beachside settlement of about 600 residents on Auckland's west coast, famous for its dramatic black iron sand beach and world-class surfing. Lion Rock divides the beach into North and South Piha, creating a striking volcanic outcrop that has become an iconic New Zealand landmark.

Piha Cafe and Piha Store are the main food options. RSA and Bowling Club also serve meals to guests who sign in.
Safety
Piha has extremely dangerous rip currents. Swim only between flagged areas when lifeguards are present. Many drownings have occurred here.
Transport
Piha Shuttle Bus runs daily 8am-7pm from Auckland CBD for $30. Private vehicle recommended for flexibility.
