Overview
Orchid Island (Lanyu) is a volcanic island in Taitung County, Taiwan, home to about 5,000 Tao (formerly Yami) people—an indigenous group culturally closer to northern Philippines than to Han Chinese. The island offers traditional underground houses (yamin), unique rock formations like Jimavonot (Torch Rock), a crater lake (Datienchih), and small local museums showcasing the annual Flying Fish Festival.
