Overview
Okazaki serves as a historic midpoint between Nagoya and Toyohashi in Aichi prefecture. The city is most celebrated as the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo shogunate, and Okazaki Castle remains the focal point of the city.

Connectivity
WiFi available at major hotels and some cafes. For consistent connectivity, consider purchasing a SIM card or pocket WiFi at Chubu Centrair Airport which connects to Higashi-Okazaki in 65 minutes (¥1,210).
Culture
Okazaki celebrates traditional festivals including a large fireworks festival in early August and a fire festival at Takisan Temple in February. The city honors its connection to Tokugawa Ieyasu throughout its historical sites.
Language
English signage is limited. Major tourist sites like Okazaki Castle have some English information, but smaller temples, restaurants, and local shops typically require Japanese or basic Japanese phrases.

Japan uses yen (JPY). Credit cards are accepted at larger hotels and some restaurants, but smaller establishments and local eateries are often cash-only.
Transport
Tokaido Main Line trains from Nagoya (¥600, 30 min) and Toyohashi (¥570, 20 min) are covered by Japan Rail Pass. Meitetsu Line trains are not covered.
