Overview
Mohan is a small border town at the very southern tip of Yunnan Province in China. It exists almost entirely as a crossing point between China and Laos.

Connectivity
At least one milk tea shop called Fresh Tea offers Wi-Fi for travelers.
Food
Cheap meals starting at ¥10 are available near the bus station. Lao and Thai dishes like pad khaphrao cost around ¥25.
Money
Currency exchange at the border is problematic. Visa-on-arrival requires US dollars in perfect condition or ¥400 Chinese yuan. No bank is available at the crossing, and touts on the Chinese side offer worse rates than the Lao side. Keep some yuan for Boten on the Lao side as it is the primary currency there.
Transport
Buses run every 20 minutes from Mohan to Mengla (¥19) from 07:10 to 18:00. International buses to Vientiane depart at 08:30 (¥260). The last bus to Mengla departs at 18:00.
