Overview
Mae Sai is Thailand's northernmost city, sitting directly across the border from Myanmar's Tachileik. The town is primarily a transit point for travelers crossing into Myanmar, but has enough character to warrant a stop: a hilltop temple complex with a giant scorpion statue facing Myanmar, a covered bazaar selling jade and gems, and easy access to the famous Tham Luang cave where the Wild Boars football team was rescued in 2018.
