Before you go
Activities
Vasiliki is Europe's windsurfing capital with afternoon winds of force 5-7. Mountain biking is excellent with bikes available in Nydri.
Food
Fish at Syvota bay or Lygia fishport; meat dishes at Karya village. Two people can eat well with wine for under €25.
Safety
Crime is very low on Lefkada, though roads are narrow, exposed, and poorly lit at night. Roadside shrines mark fatal accident spots.
Transport
Daily boat trips to Porto Katsiki leave from Nidri and Vasiliki harbour, taking 1½-2 hours. Egremni beach is reachable only by hourly ferry from Vasiliki or daily cruises from Nydri or Vasiliki.
Weather
Busiest in August. Best windsurfing in late afternoon. After 13:00, winds at Agios Ioannis become too strong for casual beach use.
