Overview
Las Galeras is a small, low-key village at the far end of the Samaná Peninsula in the Dominican Republic. Unlike its more developed neighbor Las Terrenas, it offers world-class isolated beaches like Playa Frontón and Playa Rincón without the crowds.

Options range from dorm beds (from US$15) to mid-range hotels (US$17-30). Book ahead only during December and Easter holidays.
Food
Local set lunches cost around 150 pesos. Beach vendors and small comedores provide simple meals. Upscale cliff-side dining at El Cabito (5-20 US$).
Money
Only one ATM in town at the big bank—many foreign cards aren't accepted. Bring sufficient cash or plan a day trip to Samaná for ATM access. Western Union shop in town exchanges USD and EUR.
Safety
Generally safe village. Beware of strong currents at remote beaches. Mosquitoes are prevalent—bring repellent and use mosquito nets.
Transport
Motoconchos (motorbike taxis) are the main local transport. Most town destinations are walkable (20-30 min). Playa Rincón requires vehicle transport (40-50 min).
Weather
High season December-Easter. Whale watching January-March. Hot weather year-round; the freshwater pool at Playa Rincón offers refreshing relief.
