Overview
Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya's two Premium Parks and a UNESCO Ramsar site, hosting over 400 bird species including Greater and Lesser flamingos that turn the alkaline lake pink. The park was the country's first Rhino sanctuary and holds one of the world's highest concentrations of Black Rhinoceros alongside White Rhinos.

Before you go
Money
Pay park fees in US dollars when possible; Kenyan shilling conversions use unfavorable rates. Budget travelers should stay in Nakuru town where prices are significantly lower than park lodges.
Safety
Never leave your vehicle or drive off designated roads—violations result in fines and possible removal from the park. Maintain distance from all wildlife.
Transport
Most of the park is accessible by 2WD; some viewpoints and remote areas require 4WD. Book safari companies through KATO for organized game drives.
Weather
Peak dry seasons (July-December, January-March) bring crowds. April-June and December offer lower prices with fewer tourists while wildlife remains visible year-round due to the fenced boundary.
