Overview
Komatipoort is a compact, purpose-built tourist town of 4,700 residents where the Crocodile and Komati Rivers converge through the Lebombo Mountains into Mozambique. It exists almost entirely to serve Kruger National Park visitors, tiger fishing enthusiasts, and travelers transiting to or from Mozambique and Eswatini.

Mobile coverage is available via South African carriers. WiFi is typically provided at accommodations and some restaurants.
Health
Carry water at all times, especially in summer. No special vaccinations required for South Africa but consult a travel clinic for Kruger park visits.

South African Rand (ZAR) is the local currency. Credit cards are accepted at larger lodges and some restaurants. Border fees to Eswatini (R50) are cash only.
Safety
Komatipoort is generally safe for tourists but take standard urban precautions. The extreme summer heat poses the greatest health risk—stay hydrated and avoid midday sun.
Transport
Self-drive is the most practical way to explore the area. The N4 passes through town connecting to Pretoria (west) and Maputo (east). Train service from Johannesburg operates overnight several times weekly.
Weather
Summers reach up to 48°C with high humidity; winters are pleasant at 24°C. May-September is optimal for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities.
