Things to do

The town offers numerous adventure activities: river-tubing down rapids, bridge-swinging from the 25-30m waterfall at the bottom of town, abseiling including down waterfalls, and kloofing (gorge walking) through rivers and waterfalls. The Sudwala Caves, 240 million years old and the world's oldest known cave system, are nearby with daily 1-hour tours. The Forest Industry Museum at 10 7th Ave (M-Sa 08:00-16:30) exhibits logging, silviculture, and bird life. The Fanie Botha trail offers 2-5 day hikes (20-60 km) with sleepover huts.

Safety

Locals sometimes jump from the top of the waterfall by the bridge at the bottom of town - this is 25-30m high and very dangerous if you don't enter the water correctly. Do not attempt caving without a qualified guide as the mud-caves are hazardous. River-tubing and other water activities carry standard adventure sport risks.
