Overview

Kırşehir is a compact, walkable city that rewards travelers with Hittite origins, Seljuk architecture, and connections to Sufi poets and scholars. The city produced an unusually high number of notable religious and literary figures, and Ahi Evran University keeps the scholarly tradition alive.

Kırşehir has a strong Sufi heritage, particularly the Ahi Brotherhood founded by Ahi Evran. Dress modestly when visiting mosques and religious sites.

Transport

Hourly buses from Ankara (3 hours, 250-350 TL) and from Nevşehir (2 hours). The Otogar is 4 km north of the city centre with dolmuş connections downtown.

Weather

At 1027 m elevation, winters are bitter with snow; summers are hot. Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) are the best times to visit.
