Overview
Hacıbektaş is a small pilgrimage town in South Central Anatolia, population 5325 in 2022. It draws visitors to the shrine of Haji Bektash Veli (circa 1209-71), a 13th-century Sufi saint and philosopher who taught Alevism, a mystic form of Islam.

Culture
Hacıbektaş is a center of Alevi-Bektashi tradition; dress modestly when visiting the shrine complex. The shrine was world headquarters of the Bektashi order until 1925.

Turkey uses Turkish Lira (TL). ATMs available in town; little supermarkets Nokta, Gurme, and A101 (daily 09:00-21:00) are on the main street south of the complex.

Transport
Kâmil Koç (FlixBus) runs four buses daily from Ankara (4 hours, approximately 150-200 TL). Buses drop passengers on the main street. Local taxis available; Hacıbektaş Taksi accepts credit cards.
