Overview
Jirisan is South Korea's largest and arguably most famous national park, spanning three provinces with its crown jewel being Jiri Mountain—one of the three holy mountains on the Korean peninsula. The park marks the beginning of the Baekdu Deagan Ridge, the 'spine' of Korea running all the way to the border with North Korea.

Before you go
Gear
Bring sleeping bag rated to -2°C minimum in winter. Rent blankets (₩2,000) at shelters. Crampons useful in icy conditions. Self-inflating mattress recommended for floor sleeping. Carry 2L water minimum as springs can be unreliable.
Money
Cash preferred in gateway towns. Mountain shelters accept cash on-site. Cards work at some restaurants in Gurye and Hadong. Budget ₩50,000-80,000/day for transport, shelter, and food.
Safety
Emergency: Police 112, Fire 119, Park Service +82 1670-9201. Descend Banyabong before sunset—book shelter accommodation if staying overnight. Check weather forecasts before ridge traverses.
Transport
Buses from Busan Seobu Terminal provide the main access; plan for 2-3 hours travel time. Local buses connect Gurye and Hadong to trailheads. No vehicle access within park boundaries—hiking is mandatory for through-routes.
Weather
Winter ridge temperatures drop below -10°C with strong winds. Summer brings monsoon rains. Spring azaleas and autumn foliage (mid-October) are peak seasons. Morning cloud seas at Nogodan and Banyabong Peak are most reliable in spring and autumn.
