Overview
Jalpan de Serra is the gateway to the Sierra Gorda, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to five Franciscan missions collectively designated a World Heritage site. The town centers on the ornate Mision Santiago Apostol, built by Father Junipero Serra in 1751, with its elaborate stone facade depicting Franciscan symbols and indigenous iconography.
