Overview
Imabari sits at the southern end of the Shimanami Kaido, a 70-kilometer bikeway crossing seven islands to Onomichi on Honshu. The city is also temple 54-59 on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, drawing walkers and bus pilgrims who need rest stops.

History
Imabari Castle was rebuilt in 1980 after being demolished in the 1870s. The city was historically a naval and shipping hub.
Transport
JR Yosan Line runs through Imabari with trains to Matsuyama and Takamatsu. Shiokaze Express reaches Okayama in under 2.5 hours. Shimanami Kaido expressway connects to Onomichi on Honshu.
